The holiday season has come upon us once again. Our chairs are full of clients getting ready for that special time with family and friends. We get so busy this time of year that we forget to give thanks to our clients, family, and friends. Here is a list of ways you can give thanks this month and let them know you care.
1. Free deep conditioning treatments
Many of our clients complain about how dry their hair and skin is this time of year. While the winter winds may blustering and blowing outside, it’s actually the dry air from our heaters in our cars and homes that leave our hair and skin parched. Deep conditioning treatments are the most cost effective way to show that you appreciate the business your clients bring you. Typically a deep conditioning masque is a minimal cost to absorb and it takes minutes. It’s also a good way to introduce this service if you haven’t done so before.
2. Give out samples of products
Through out the year, I try to save sample or travel sizes that my distributor has given me. Many people travel this time of year and it is a nice treat to have something besides shampooing with whatever the hotel provides. Most samples come in a little foil pack or a TSA approved size so it’s easy to pack and doesn’t take up room in your luggage. It’s also another opportunity to introduce a new product or something they haven’t used before.
3. Offer treats and hot cocoa
The first salon I worked in was in a small town. There were only three of us in that tiny salon. We were young and didn’t have a lot of resources. However, we could bake. We found recipes for cookies and cakes. Then we made wassail, coffee, and cocoa. We let all of our clients know that the weeks leading up to Christmas they were welcome to stop by, say hello and have a small treat on us. I will never forget how much they enjoyed that. While there was no up-selling or introducing them to a new service, we showed them that we cared. Sometimes that is the best up-sell of all.
The holiday season is my favorite time of year. By giving thanks to the people that allow me to make the living I do, it relieves the stress and tension that can come with this busy season. By taking the focus away from the negative and focusing on what matters most, your clients will be giving thanks right back to you. Happy Turkey Day!
